Ever wanted to coat something in the delicious flavor of a Watermelon Jolly Rancher?  How about the Mystery Dum Dums flavor?

No?

That’s okay, then!  I’m sure there are some other people who enjoy turning everything in their house into cocktail ingredients, and that is who this is for.

Hard candies come in so many flavors that you can do some really awesome things this way, especially if there is a particular unique flavor you really love. The candies I used here are black garlic hard candies from a local Asian market. I really like them because the combination of sugar and garlic can be a really nice addition to the right drink.

To make hard candies into a syrup, take enough candies (preferably all the same flavor, but if you want to experiment, I’m not one to judge!) to cover the bottom of a small saucepan. It took about 30 for me. Then add water until they are just covered.

Put the pan over medium heat and stir the candies frequently to keep them from sticking to the bottom. Once they start melting, they will be very sticky, and if they stick too much, you’ll have burnt candy! You do not want this. After a while, they will slowly dissolve into the water. Keep on boiling until the remaining liquid reaches a syrupy consistency.

This is what it looks like when it is done! Then you can use it in or on pretty much anything that calls for syrup and store it in an airtight container in your fridge for a long time!
