Food Tent

I went to the North Branford Potato (and Corn!) Festival in search of an ice cream vendor who had, sadly, already left. But that’s ok! Because there were many other delicious North Branfordy things to eat.

Potato!

Potato!

Like potatoes! Mine was deliciously smothered in butter and cheese and broccoli and bacon, just as every potato should be.

Of course, potatoes are also tasty when they are fried and salted.  (Have you ever realized that potato is a ridiculous word? . . . No?  ) Art’s French Fries is an institution in the Connecticut fair-circuit, and you can watch the potatoes  be chopped and deep-fried before you eat them.

Fried Dough being cooked

Fried Dough

The North Branford Fire Department’s #3 Company had pizza-style fried dough. I’m sure we can all agree that fried dough served by volunteer fire-fighters is approximately 300% more awesome then the normal kind.

Chocolate cookie with graham cracker and marshmallow.

S'mores cookie

Pastry Fusions pastry shop had amazingly delicious cookies, including  these s’mores ones. It’s a chocolate cookie with graham cracker and marshmallows, and every bakery in the world should have them because I want to be able to eat one every day. Or eat ten every day. All I know is, my life needs more of these.

Chocolate Covered Banana

Mascari Brothers Tropical Fruit had chocolate and cherry covered frozen bananas, as a benefit for the CT ALS Foundation.

Foxon Park Kola

They also had soda by Foxon Park. Foxon Park’s factory is just a couple miles up the road from the fairgrounds, and they’re one of Connecticut’s four independent soda makers.

Wild Bill's

Wild Bill's

There was also Wild Bill’s Olde Fashioned Soda – a New Jersey based company that has the best theme for a soda stand that I’ve ever seen. Actually, their Wild West setup may be the only themed soda stand that I’ve seen, but it was still very fun – you get a tin mug and fill it from what looks like wooden kegs.
